Track PASMA tower training cards, expiry dates, and renewal courses for every worker

A team that works from mobile access towers does not have one PASMA date. It has a card per worker, each with its own course date and expiry, a level and categories that show which towers that person trained for, a renewal course to book at an approved training centre, and a card check someone meant to log. Remindax puts every worker's PASMA card, expiry, renewal booking, and last card check on one register - with owners and Email, SMS, and WhatsApp reminders. Free to start.

  • GDPR-ready
  • Forever-free plan
  • iOS & Android App
  • Trusted by 30,000+ teams

One register for every worker's PASMA card, expiry, renewal course, and card check.

A facilities contractor with fourteen operatives, a signage firm, a school estates team that puts up a tower twice a year. Each has the same quiet problem: the cards were issued in different months, the expiry lives on a plastic card in a wallet, and nobody knows whose course runs out next.

This page covers PASMA mobile access tower cards: course date, expiry, renewal course, and card check. US OSHA scaffold training under Subpart L lives on scaffolding certification tracking, and harness and lanyard training on fall protection certification tracking. (General information only - not legal advice. See Sources.)

Dates and status - not training delivery

Remindax tracks worker names, PASMA level and categories, course dates, card expiry, renewal bookings, card check dates, owners, and status. It does not run or book courses, verify cards, connect to PASMA or TowerSure, or decide whether anyone is competent to build or use a tower.

Section 01

1. What is PASMA card tracking?

PASMA, the Prefabricated Access Suppliers' and Manufacturers' Association, accredits tower training, and the training centre issues each worker a card and certificate. PASMA card tracking is a dated record, per worker, of the course passed, the expiry shown on the card, the next course booking, and the last card check. It answers one question per name: is this card current, and when does it stop?

1.1 What sits on each row

Who

Worker, site, and card type

Name as on the card, site or team, and card type.

Course

Level, categories, and course date

Codes on the card, course taken, and pass date.

Dates

Expiry and card check

Card expiry, last card check, and who ran it.

Owner

Booking owner and status

Who books the renewal, which centre, and whether the row is current, due soon, or overdue.

Section 02

2. What does PASMA say about card validity?

Validity is set by PASMA, not by a tracking tool, so the expiry on your register should come from the card itself. The table summarises what the PASMA pages said when we read them on 2026-10-13. Check the live pages before you set a policy.

Item What PASMA says Register field
Qualification lengthEvery PASMA qualification has an expiry date. Course pages (Towers for Users, Low-Level Access, Towers for Managers, and others) list a qualification length of 5 years, and say it may vary regionally. Access Tower Specialist is listed as a minimum of 5 yearsExpiry date copied from the card, not calculated
RenewalRenew before the expiry date shown on the certificate by taking the same course again at an Approved Training CentreRenewal course date and training centre
Virtual cardAn unrenewed virtual card disappears from the TowerSure app at expiryCard type (photocard, virtual, or both)
Card checkCheck a Card confirms validity, but is not a substitute for actual proofDate of last card check, who ran it, and the result

Summary only, from the PASMA pages in Sources, last read on 2026-10-13. The expiry that counts is the one on the worker's own card. What your site requires of a worker is a question for your own advisers and the HSE guidance in Sources.

Section 03

3. Why track the level and category as well as the expiry?

A card can be current and still not match the job. PASMA explains that every card shows a level (the type of training) and categories (the courses completed, so the types of tower the holder trained to assemble). Its example: for a worker building a cantilever tower, look for level U and category A6. An expiry-only register cannot show that gap.

Code on card What PASMA says it means
Level UUser - the standard PASMA qualification
Level MManager - manages or supervises people working at height on mobile access towers
Category T / L / WTowers for Users / Low Level Access / Work at Height (Novice)
Category A5 to A9Towers on Stairways, Towers with Cantilevers, Towers with Bridges, Linked Towers, Large Deck Towers

PASMA also lists a Work at Height (Novice) course for people who work from towers but do not build them. Keep the category in its own field next to the expiry. Who may do which task is for the people in charge of the work.

Section 04

4. How do renewal courses fit on a register?

PASMA says you renew by taking the same course again with an Approved Training Centre, and a pass brings a new certificate. The Towers for Users page describes a one-day course with a maximum class of 12, so a seat must be booked.

A renewal is a dated booking, not a note: a named centre, an owner, a course date, and a status that stays open until the new expiry is logged. PASMA says a renewed virtual card updates automatically with no new certificate number.

4.1 Three dates, three reminders

  • ✓Booking window opens: an early reminder to the booking owner to find a seat. How early is your own setting.
  • ✓Expiry approaching, no course booked: a further reminder, site manager copied.
  • ✓After the course: the owner logs the result and the new expiry from the card.
Section 05

5. How do card checks and virtual cards fit in?

PASMA's Check a Card page takes a first name, last name, and certificate number, exactly as given to the instructor, and confirms the qualification is valid. PASMA says it works for users and managers, not instructors, and is not a substitute for actual proof: a holder without a virtual card or photocard should download TowerSure or ask their training provider for a replacement.

On a register the check is a dated event: log the date, who ran it, the result, and the card type shown. It is a snapshot, so the check date and the expiry date are separate fields with separate reminders.

Section 06

6. What does a PASMA register look like?

One row per worker, with level, course date, card expiry, last check, renewal booking, owner, and status. The example is illustrative - names, sites, and dates are made up.

Illustrative register only. Names and centres are placeholders; expiry is shown as it would be copied from each card.

Section 07

7. Which tower inspection and handover dates sit next to the card?

This page tracks the worker's card; the other clocks belong to the tower or the job, so keep each on its own row. The HSE says work at height must be properly planned, supervised, and carried out by competent people, which is why teams keep card dates close to inspection dates.

Pointer

Tower inspection

PASMA recommends inspecting after assembly and before use, and re-inspecting at least every 7 days where a fall of 2m or more is possible.

Pointer

Handover date

The date a built tower goes to the user crew, and who signed it over.

Pointer

Fall protection kit

Harness and lanyard dates. See fall protection certification tracking.

Section 08

8. Which owner model works for PASMA records?

Split the work by stage, with one person overseeing every site:

Booking

Site manager or training coordinator

Books the course, arranges cover, and logs the new expiry.

Checking

Supervisor or foreman

Sees the card, runs the check, logs the date.

Oversight

Operations or safety manager

Reviews overdue rows and decides next steps under your own policy.

8.1 An example escalation ladder

  • ✓Booking window reached: the booking owner is reminded to find a course place.
  • ✓Four weeks before expiry, no course booked: the site manager is copied.
  • ✓Date passed: the row turns overdue and escalates to the operations manager by Email, SMS, or WhatsApp.

Offsets are examples your team sets. Training renewal software works best when these reminders live in the tool, not in one coordinator's inbox.

Section 09

9. How Remindax tracks PASMA cards

Remindax is date-and-reminder tracking - not a training centre, card checker, or PASMA service:

1

Every worker on one register

Level, categories, course date, and card expiry per worker.

2

Expiry and booking reminders

An early booking reminder, then reminders as expiry approaches.

3

Card checks with owners

Dates, results, and who ran each check.

4

Exports by site or status

Cards expiring soon, or overdue rows.

One honest limit

Remindax does not run card checks, book or deliver courses, connect to PASMA or TowerSure, or decide whether anyone is competent to build or use a tower. It holds names, dates, and owners on AWS hosting with encryption. GDPR-ready.

Section 10

10. Why spreadsheets fail for PASMA tracking

A spreadsheet holds a date. It cannot warn anyone that a card expires next month with no course booked.

Manual spreadsheet
  • xOne expiry column, so categories are never compared with the job
  • xNo alert before a renewal course needs booking
  • xCard checks happen on site and never reach the sheet
  • xCard, inspection, and handover dates blur together
Automated tracking
  • ✓Expiry, level, and categories per worker
  • ✓Reminders before each date, by Email, SMS, or WhatsApp
  • ✓Card check dates and who ran them
  • ✓Separate fields for each linked date
Section 11

11. Key takeaways

  • ✓Track one row per worker: level, categories, course date, card expiry, last check, renewal booking, owner, status.
  • ✓PASMA says every qualification expires and lists 5 years on its course pages, which may vary regionally, so copy the expiry from the card.
  • ✓Renewal means retaking the course at an Approved Training Centre, so it is a dated booking with an owner.
  • ✓A card check is a snapshot: log its date, who ran it, and the result, separate from the expiry.
  • ✓Remindax tracks dates and status and reminds by Email, SMS, and WhatsApp. It does not train or give legal advice. Free to start.
Section 12

12. Frequently Asked Questions

PASMA says every PASMA qualification has an expiry date, and its course pages list a qualification length of 5 years, noting this may vary regionally. Record the expiry printed on each worker's own card rather than working it out from the course date.

PASMA says you renew before the expiry date shown on your certificate by taking the same course again at an Approved Training Centre, including a written and practical test. On a register, that is a dated booking with a named centre, an owner, and a result.

PASMA says the level shows the type of training (U for User, M for Manager, I for Instructor) and the categories show the courses completed (for example T for Towers for Users, A6 for Towers with Cantilevers). A card can be current yet not cover the tower type needed, so track both as fields.

PASMA's Check a Card tool takes the holder's first name, last name, and certificate number and confirms whether the qualification is valid, but PASMA says it should not replace seeing the actual card. Log the check date, who ran it, the result, and the card type shown. For a lost card, PASMA points to the training centre for a replacement and the TowerSure app for a virtual card.

Keep them separate: a card belongs to a worker, an inspection to a tower. PASMA recommends re-inspecting towers where a fall of 2m or more is possible at least every 7 days. Track those dates in their own rows and use the worker row as a pointer.

This page covers PASMA mobile access tower cards, mainly used in the UK. Scaffold user and competent person training under US OSHA Subpart L is covered on the scaffolding certification tracking page, a different scheme with different dates.

No. Remindax tracks the details and dates you log and sends reminders by Email, SMS, and WhatsApp. It does not check cards, book or deliver courses, connect to PASMA or TowerSure, or give legal advice.

Yes - a forever-free plan, no credit card required.
